We-Mail from Pastor Mark for 08/03
This is an exciting week for WUMC. Our Adopt-A-Family “Back to School” distribution is Saturday, August 11th. All the packs of paper and pencils, glue and notebooks, outfits and socks will go to children and families that need a little help. Let us pray for those families and children who struggle to make ends meet and especially for the teachers and school staff who return to educate and nurture our loved ones. God bless them every one.
This Sunday we will offer a Blessing of the Backpacks during Children’s Time. It’s a moment in time when we can reach out and lift up our children, parents, teachers and support staff to ask God’s blessing. Parents: Help your child to remember to bring their backpack. It’ll be a fun morning as we join in their excitement.
Our sermon this week involves a different character, the Ethiopian Eunuch. It may be hard to imagine a time so long ago in a setting so different from ours, but try to imagine a man, tall and regal, elaborately dressed, standing in a chariot. He has traveled a great distance in order to attend worship in the temple. Did they allow him in? He is not from Judea and does not wear the attire of the local people. His speech has a dialect of a foreign land, yet he wants to attend this ceremony and experience God’s presence. He is reading from the book of Isaiah aloud while stopped on the road. Would you assist him? Would you follow the Spirit’s leading and speak to him?
Take a moment and read Acts 8 and consider the situation and what you would have done. Philip is a good example for all of us.
See you on Sunday,
